This bridge carries the Northern Line of Merseyrail over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to the north of Sandhills railway station. It is designated HXS3/2, where HXS3 is the Sandhills Junction to Southport branch of the Hunts Cross to Southport Line. It is 1.72 miles from the datum at Exchange Station, Liverpool. It also shares the designation SJO1/83 where SJO1 is the Walton Junction to Sandhills Junction branch of the line to Ormskirk.
