The Main Exhibition Building -- 1876 feet in length and enclosing 21.5 acres -- was the largest building in the world by area. Designed by Joseph Wilson and Henry Pettit, it was intended to be a temporary structure. Following the Centennial, it was disassembled and its pieces sold at auction.
