English: The Metéora (Greek: Μετέωρα) is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece. To achieve the appropriate isolation and defense they have been constructed on natural chimney formations of the Antichasia Mountains. The name has been used for the Municipality of Meteora wih seat at nearby Kalabaka. Meteora, that section of the mountains, and Kalabaka have been combined into a Natura 2000 protected area.
