This category contains military map symbol for a land units or formations. The diamond shaped frame was introduced in NATO's APP-6A standard to indicate hostile units, and the icons contained within are found in NATO or member nation doctrine. In some cases, icons that predate the APP-6A standard have been modified to fit the diamond frame. The colour red was identified in APP-6 to indicate hostile entities. The icons in this category have been designed to be paired with many of the unit size icons at Category:Unit size indicators for tactical signs and map symbols of NATO to complete a full map symbol or tac sign, as illustrated here:
