Monument in St Luke's Church, Gaddesby, Leicestershire, to Col. Edward Charles Hawkins Cheney (1778-1848), of Gaddesby Hall, with near life-sized marble horse (the only such statue in an English church), depicting his heroic action in the Battle of Waterloo. Astride the dying 5th horse shot under him during that battle. The statue, sculpted by Joseph Gott, was removed in 1917 from the conservatory of Gaddesby Hall. He was the 2nd son of Robert Cheney of Meynell Langley in Derbyshire. He married Eliza Ayre (1786-1818), youngest daughter and heiress of John Ayre II of Gaddesby Hall, son and heir of John Ayre I (d.1758) of Gaddesby Hall, w:High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1744
