The open forests with mown understoreys are mostly the remnants of the original forests of 7th Brigade Park, Chermside, but also include trees that have been planted ornamentally. Diversity of bird species is considerably lower than those forests with unmown understoreys due to the lack of cover for smaller birds. These forests will not regenerate naturally due to the mowing regime killing seedlings.
