English: Ostinato in music (derived from Italian: "stubborn") is a persistently repeated motif or phrase, in the same musical voice. The repeating musical idea may be a rhythmic pattern, part of a music composition, or a complete melody in itself. Strictly speaking, ostinati should have exact repetition, but in common usage, the term covers repetition with variation and development, such as the alteration of an ostinato line to fit changing harmonies or keys.

Español: Ostinato en música (derivado del italiano: "obstinado, terco") es un motivo o frase repetidos persistentemente, en la misma voz o parte. La idea de la repetición musical puede ser un patrón rítmico, parte de una composición musical o una melodía completa en sí misma. Estrictamente hablando, los ostinati deberían tener repeticiones exactas, pero en el uso cotidiano, el término abarca la repetición con variación y desarrollo, tales como la alteración de una línea de ostinato para adaptarse a un cambio de armonías o tonalidades.
