The Panniyur Varahamoorthy temple is a part of a historic site with five Hindu temples. It is another example of Chera dynasty era historic site and Chera-style Hindu temple architecture dedicated to the Vishnu tradition. The main temples here are dedicated to Varaha avatar of Vishnu and Bhumidevi (rescued goddess earth). The site includes foundation and platforms whose temples are now lost, as well as restored Hindu temples. To the north of the complex is a historic pushkarini (temple water tank) and water reservoir called the Panniyur Thura, which is also used as a source of irrigation and household water.
