Er erhielt 1973 als bislang einziger Schriftsteller seines Kontinents den Nobelpreis für Literatur und gilt als einer der wichtigsten englischsprachigen Autoren des 20. Jahrhunderts. Sein Gesamtwerk umfasst zwölf Romane, dazu Gedichte, Kurzgeschichten, Dramen, Essays und eine Autobiografie.
English: Patrick Victor Martindale White (28 May 1912 – 30 September 1990), an Australian author, is widely regarded as an important English-language novelist of the 20th century. From 1935 until his death, he published 12 novels, two short-story collections and eight plays. In the last several years of his life, he lived in a house in Martin Road, Centennial Park, Sydney. The house is now heritage-listed.
