A Year of Rituals with Wikipedia was a collaboration between the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, Wikimedia Polska and young volunteers interested in ethnography and cultural studies. The project aimed to enhance Polish and English-language Wikipedia with accurate entries discussing selected unique Polish folk customs, as well as to make available the photographs, films and audio recordings of the rituals in Wikimedia Commons. We have documented the drowning of Marzanna; Easter “Greys”; the Easter “Śmiergust” and “Siuda Baba” celebrations; beheading a kite; and finally, a harvest pilgrimage and celebrations of the Dormition of the Mother of God. We hope that the articles, films and other material online and offline will allow everyone to get better acquainted with Polish folklore rituals and the way they are celebrated today.
