English: The first Ryogoku Kokugikan was built in 1909 as new professional sumo venue in Ekoin, the former sumo venue from 1873 to 1909. The new venue was reconstructed three times because of the repeated destruction due to the fire in 1917, the Great Kantō earthquake in 1923, and the Bombing of Tokyo in March, 1945. After World War II, this building was used for various events. Finally, it was demolished by aging in 1983.
