Afrikaans: Skis is 'n versamelnaam vir middelgraad metamorfiese gesteentes, wat veral gekenmerk word deur oorwegend lamellêre minerale soos mikas, chloriet, talk, horingblende, grafiet en ander. 'n Spesifieke soort kwarts-skis tel hieronder. Per definisie bevat skis meer as 50% verlengde bladminerale, dikwels vervleg met kwarts en veldspaat.
English: The schists form a group of medium-grade en:metamorphic rocks, chiefly notable for the preponderance of lamellar en:minerals such as en:micas, chlorite, en:talc, en:hornblende, en:graphite, and others. en:Quartz often occurs in drawn-out grains to such an extent that a particular form called quartz schist is produced. By definition, schist contains more than 50% platy and elongated minerals, often finely interleaved with quartz and en:feldspar.

Magyar: A kristályos pala (schist) olyan metamorf kőzet, amely kézipéldányméretben, láthatóan jól kifejlett palásságot mutat. Palás megjelenésének oka a nagy mennyiségű, nem izometrikus ásványszemcse irányított elrendeződése. A filloszilikát-gazdag kőzetekre a kristályos pala elnevezést általában a közepes-durva szemcsés változatokra alkalmazzák (az egyes szemcsék szabad szemmel megkülönböztethetők egymástól), míg a finomszemcsés kőzetekre a hu:zsindelypala (agyagpala /slate/) vagy a hu:fillit elnevezés használatos.

Македонски: Шкрилецот е среднозрнеста до крупнозрнеста mk:метаморфна карпа со среден до висок mk:кристалитет и со одлично изразена шкрилавост, по која и го добиле името. Од mk:минералите, во нив доминираат mk:мусковит, mk:талк, mk:хлорит, mk:биотит и други. Името го добиваат по водечкиот минерал или минералите што доминираат: mk:микашисти (ако доминира mk:лискунот), хлоритски шкрилци, талкотни шкрилци итн. mk:Кварцот како редовна состојка некогаш може и да доминира (кварц-микашисти, кварц-хлоритски шкрилци итн.).
Nederlands: Schist is een laag- tot middel-metamorf nl:gesteente (doorgaans gevormd bij drukken van 0,1 tot 0,8 GPa en temperaturen van 200 tot 600 graden Celsius). Het oorspronggesteente van schist was nl:schalie, dat via de lager metamorfe fases nl:leisteen en nl:fylliet tot schist gemetamorfoseerd werd. Ook fijnkristallijn nl:stollingsgesteente dat metamorfe processen ondergaat, kan schistositeit vertonen. De naam schist betekent letterlijk gescheurde steen. Door de foliatie ontstaat oplijning van nl:mica's als nl:muscoviet, nl:biotiet of nl:chloriet (groenschist). Dit is typisch voor schisteus gesteente.
Português: O xisto é uma rocha que resulta de metamorfismo. Quando a argila sofre metamorfismo,a rocha resultante é a ardósia, mas, se o metamorfismo for mais intenso origina um xisto.
