Deutsch: Die Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands (SED) war die kommunistische Staatspartei in der DDR. Sie entstand 1946 durch den Zusammenschluss der SPD und KPD in der sowjetischen Besatzungszone. 1989/1990 entstand aus ihr die PDS.
English: The Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) was the leading communist party in East Germany. It was formed in 1946 by the fusion of the SPD and KPD in the soviet sctor of Germany. In 1989/1990 it was succeeded by the PDS.
