Use of a standing tree in conjunction with a mobile yarder (instead of a steel tower or lattice frame) to provide an artifical increase in deflection from an elevated winching point (block hung from the spar). The spar tree system often required substantial rigging and skilled expertise for selection and installation of guy line anchors and blocks.
