English: Once commonly used for all types of (underwater) diving, before the widespread acceptance of SCUBA equipment, standard diving dress (also known as hard-hat equipment, a "John Brown" rig and, in the United States, sometimes as a "Diver Dan" outfit) consisted of a metal diving helmet, an airline to the surface, a diving suit, boots and lead weights to counteract the buoyancy of the helmet and diving suit.
