Consolidated Act on Copyright (Consolidated Act No. 1144 of October 23, 2014), permits uses of pictorial representations (like images) of works of art found in public places, but this no longer applies if the work is the main subject of the pictorial representation and this representation is used for commercial purposes. Therefore, images of such works are not considered as "free works" on Wikimedia Commons, which requires images to be used even for commercial purposes. Please do not upload images showing such works, unless these works are already in public domain, or 70 years have passed since the death of the artist or last-surviving artist. See also Commons:CRT/Denmark#Freedom of panorama for more information.

The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.

A statue of The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue) is located at Langelinie in the Copenhagen harbour. She stands only 1.25 meter and was sculptured by Copenhagen artist Edvard Eriksen (* 1876; † 1959). He used famous ballerina Ellen Price as inspiration for the face, the statue's body was inspired by his own wife.

Warning: The Little Mermaid is a copyrighted work of art by Edvard Eriksen (died 1959) according to Danish law. Thus the copyright for this work of art expires on 1 January 2030.

Images of the statue are derivative works. Successors of this sculptor are known to file lawsuits against derivative works used commercially (see Commons:Forum/Archiv/2007/October#Denkmale in Dänemark and a warning printed in a magazine for professional journalists). The freedom of panorama does not extend to commercial use of works of art that are located in public places if such images constitute the central element of the picture. (§ 24, 2).
