Stepan Osipovich Makarov was a famous Russian vice-admiral, a highly accomplished and decorated commander of the Russian Navy, and a distinguished oceanographer, awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences, and author of several books.

Степан Осипович Макаров (27 декабря 1848 (8 января 1849), Николаев — 31 марта (13 апреля) 1904, близ Порт-Артура) — русский флотоводец, океанограф, полярный исследователь, кораблестроитель, вице-адмирал (1896).
