"Temple coins" or "offering coins" (gong yang qian, 供養錢) were a type of coin issued by Buddhist temples as faithful offerings to the Buddha that resemble cash coins, the majority of these were issued during the Mongol Yuan Dynasty in times when only banknotes were printed by the government and the production of cast coinage had ceased.
