The Eternal Prodigal was the first Broadway production presented by the Federal Dance Theatre, a division of the Federal Theatre Project. Directed by Gluck-Sandor and Felicia Sorel, it opened November 29, 1936, at the Ritz Theatre. The surrealistic dance drama featured a score by Herbert Kingsley and costumes and settings by Nat Karson.
