English: The Needles is a section of rapids on the Potomac River, which begins just below the remains of Dam No. 3, at about 1.4 miles upriver from The Point in Harpers Ferry, where the Potomac meets the Shanendoah River, They run down to the confluence of those rivers. The whitewater section is rated as Class II+. Just below the start of the rapids on the West Virginia bank are the ruins of the Armory Canal headrace, where water from the river was diverted to power the federal armory in Harpers Ferry.
