English: Tommys Luncheonette, located at 401 North Eighth Street (North Eighth and Gordon Streets) opened in 1941 as a workingman's sandwich shop. Operated by Thomas and Marie (Horwath) Kristie, they lived in the apartment above the Restaurant, The couple operated the business for over 53 years, until retiring in 1994. Born on 31 December 1920, Kristie served in the Eighth Armored Division of the United States Army in the European theatre of World War II beginning in 1943. He returned to Allentown in 1946.
Kristie died in Whitehall Township on 30 August 2017. The business today is a Spanish-oriented restaurant.
