English: The Isle of Wight Festival 2012 took place from 21-24 June 2012. In weeks leading up to the event, heavy rain had occurred across the Isle of Wight as well as the rest of the country, leading to the grounds becoming waterlogged. This caused a nightmare in getting vehicles on and around the Isle of Wight Festival site as they arrived off the ferry. Delays into the site backed up to the ferry terminals meaning ferries were unable to dock, which also had a knock-on effect in Portsmouth and Southampton. Car parks became unusable due to mud and much of the camping ground around the site was also unsuitable. The town of Newport and surrounding settlements was a no-go area for much of 21 June, with delays of over 5 hours on some bus routes. Some even spent the night on ferries which were unable to dock on the island. Traffic eased on Friday as a 4x4 response team and additional police officers were drafted in from the mainland to help. There were many complaints from businesses and residents around the island, as well as festival goers who wanted refunds on their tickets. Since the event in 2012, a new traffic management plan has been adopted with delays kept to a minimum since.
