English: "Trencadís" is a type of mosaic created from broken tile shards. Antoni Gaudí was the first to use this technique, creating brightly-colored patterns. It is typical of the Modernisme in Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia and the Land of Valencia. A similar technique is named pique assiette.
