From the entrance to the fortress to its east one climbs to the higher level of the inner castle along a ramp with very broad steps, so horses could ascend. It is covered by a vaulted roof to protect from enemy fire. Shortly before reaching the bastion in the southeast (that also protects it from enemy fire) it makes a hairpin bend, to later make a turn left and enter the inner castle through a set of gates to the lower courtyard.
