Freequency was a party held by the Vibe Tribe of Sydney, Australia, in April 1995 that became famous for being violenty broken up by police over "noise complaints". A total of 40 police officers crashed the rave and 9 or 10 (accounts differ) people (out of over 500 partygoers) were arrested.
Later, an investigation by the New South Wales Ombudsman found that "a systemic course of lying must have been in operation", and that, "in hindsight, it may have been desirable for police to withdraw and address the crowd via a public address system". The officers did not "follow basic recording procedures relating to prisoners whom they had arrested", and several of them "deliberately removed their badges and have failed to come forward".
