Bridges constructed of either wrought iron or steel, where this is currently unknown. Ideally this category should be empty, and all bridges within it sub-categorised to wrought-iron bridges, steel bridges, or their more appropriate subcategories. Bridges around 1890 are difficult to identify, although most structures before this are of wrought iron (e.g. Eiffel Tower), those after this (e.g. Forth Bridge) are steel. Note that cast-iron bridges are usually identifiable by their appearance and construction. "Iron bridges" is thus a largely useless categorization. Bridges deliberately of both wrought and cast iron belong in composite wrought and cast iron bridges.
