Exception

[edit]

@Draceane: this category is an exception, it includes material intended for Bridges in Czechia by name (like all other countries). --Orijentolog (talk) 12:41, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OK, if I understand well, the correct description of the Bridges in Czechia by name should be Bridges in Czechia by etymology. However I would like to retain also this flat category as a flat category (to prevent moving subcategories into location based categories by name). I want to categorize all bridges into other category trees (e.g. by type, by material..., "our Czech" cat-tree is very "location-centric" so the huge flat category is needed for editing pages with Cat-a-lot. — Draceane talkcontrib. 13:27, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Draceane: no no, you misunderstood. :) Bridges in Czechia by name, as well as any other [Structure] in [country] by name category, is intended to serve as a flat list of all bridges (or other structures). See for example Norway, Iran, Taiwan, all individual bridges in these countries are there. Therefore, this category should be redirected to Bridges in Czechia by name. I know it's a hell of a job to move all 1670 bridges, but you may ask some admins who use bots.
Regarding your future plans, keep in mind that Germany and Iran use the most comprehensive system (also most complicated) of categorization, so you can follow it. --Orijentolog (talk) 14:26, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've understood well, if you look e.g. at Bridges in Germany by name, that's not a flat category anymore. For creating more comprehensive system, I would need truly flat category like this maintenance one. — Draceane talkcontrib. 14:43, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Draceane: the category Bridges in Germany by name is an exception, they did not fill it yet with all bridges, that's why I mentioned Norway, Iran, Taiwan as better examples of flat lists. Byw this is not something urgent, it can be redirected latter, even after a year or two. No worries. :) --Orijentolog (talk) 15:28, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Orijentolog and Draceane: Generally, categories "by name" can serve as flat categories only for such subjects which (typically) have their stable, codified and unique names, such as people, countries, cities and other settlements, municipalities, named streets and squares, train stations, ships, mountains, rivers etc. However, bridges have typically no names, with the exception of a small part of the most important bridges, or bigger city bridges with their "street names". However, most of bridges havn't their official proper names and have descriptive category names which cannot be consider as proper names of the bridges. The format and construction of such descriptive titles can be various, usually based on what or which communication they transfer, what or which obstacle they overcome, in which territory or near which object they are located, or by type, shape, colour, function or other specifics of the bridge. Bridges in Czechia by name is also useful, but not as a flat category (but rather structured by naming type and subject), and is intended only for the small minority of bridges that are officially or traditionally named. Maybe, there is a different tratidion in Norway, Iran or Taiwan and typical bigger bridges have their names there. But in Europe, common road and railway bridges usually don't have names. Bridges on highways and roads of I to III classes are numbered (according to the road number and order on the given road), bridges of municipal, rural and forest roads or trails usually do not even have any public indentifiers. Common railway bridges are identified by their kilometer position on the track, which is not very suitable for categorization in Commons. --ŠJů (talk) 19:49, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Plnění kategorie

[edit]
