I propose that these two categories be merged, since the terms are synonymous, describing an architectural element (usually) at the base of a structure used to denote the date of construction or a dedication. Mindmatrix (talk) 14:24, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To me a foundation stone is a documentary thing, a cornerstone a (decorative, informational) structural element of a building. It is not because that many images are wrongly categorised that we have to merge them. --Foroa (talk) 20:24, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is that just to you, as in a personal opinion, or do you have any sources for that? Is it something specific to the English language? As I honestly cannot see any sensible distinction here. Joostik (talk) 01:47, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand it, in some languages a corner stone is a subtype of foundation stone. In other languages the terms are interchangeable. Joostik (talk) 02:37, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
