I propose a new subcategory for the defenses of doctoral dissertation. This is the day when the dissertation is examined. The promotion is the later ceremony where the doctoral degree is conferred. Per W (talk) 12:16, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
In Sweden, there are three ceremonies related to the doctoral degree:
- Spikning (litterally nailing), when the printed dissertation is nailed to a board at the university for everybody to read. Please have a look at sv:Spikning (akademisk). There are at least two images for this.
- Defense, when the opponent, the grading committee and everyone interested can ask questions about the dissertation. It is followed by a meeting where the grade is set. There are some photos in connection with the defense.
- Promotion, when the degree is conferred. Actually, it happens before as an administrative procedure, but the ceremony is still important. Most photos seem to be from this ceremony.
