I found on the museum site:

By using the Photo Archives web site, you agree to the following guidelines. As part of its public service mission, The Field Museum Library Photo Archives provides reproductions of certain photographs from its collection, for personal or research use only. Any other use, including but not limited to commercial or scholarly publication, exhibition, online/web site, broadcast/film, home video, and promotional use without prior written permission of the Library Photo Archives is strictly prohibited. Granting or withholding of permission is determined by the Photo Archives on a case-by-case basis, and a usage fee may be required. Requesters will be asked to comply with the conditions in the Photo Archive Permissions Contract.

Can we use these images? --Stunteltje (talk) 18:45, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that those statements apply to contents on the website, not to the ones which they publish on Flickr. As you see, Category:Files from Flickr's 'The Commons' are widely accepted here and I don't think we have enough proofs to say that the institution was wrong in choosing that "licence" or worst, that they don't have the authority to. I tried to contact them before uploading but did not get any reply, I'll try again and keep you posted. --Elitre (talk) 11:52, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
