Contradictory license situation

[edit]
  1. The text of the Wikipedia articles from which these comics are derived is licensed under the GFDL. Any derivative work must also carry the same license. It is questionable whether even dual licensing would be valid. If the text is considered fair use, this should be stated.
  2. The individual cartoons are released under the CC-SA license, but the category page states that 'Any modifications should be approved by Greg Williams or the Wikimedia Foundation.' If this is merely a recommendation rather than a requirement then this should be made clear. If the license applies to the copyright, and the request for approval to the use of Grey Williams' and Wikimedia's trademarks, this should be stated. If approval is required for all derivative works, even with trademarks removed, then it was clearly not the copyright-holder's intention to release these works under a SA license and this should be corrected.

This is a moderately high profile project and it doesn't set a good example not to respect the letter of these licenses when we expect our users to. 84.65.66.82 08:15, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • #1 is not an issue anymore;
  • #2: I’ve commented that part out. Let somebody clarify it so it doesn’t sound like the license asks for that.
