Presentation
[edit]The Nationaal Archief is the national archive of the Netherlands, located in The Hague. It houses collections for the central government, the province of Zuid-Holland, and the former County of Holland.
Spaarnestad Photo is an independent photo-archive located in Haarlem. Founded in 1985, its archives were included in the Nationaal Archief in 2008.
History
[edit]In September 2010, the Nationaal Archief and Spaarnestad Photo donated more than 1,000 photographs about Dutch politicians and important events to Wikipedia. This was possible within the concept of Beelden voor de Toekomst (Images for the Future) project, which is all about preservation, digitization and making material publicly available. The specific donation was a result of a cooperation between Beelden voor de Toekomst and Wikimedia Nederland. This donation was executed at the political press center Nieuwspoort in The Hague with several former and current politicians being present to share their memories with these photos. You can find images of this event in this category.
Images
[edit]The images were selected based on a list of political topics and were mainly taken from the former press agency ANEFO (Algemeen Nederlandsch Fotobureau) collection and the Spaarnestad collection(s). The copyrights of this collection lie with the Nationaal Archief (National Archive of the Netherlands) as the Dutch Government acquired these images. The images are made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 NL license.
The images can be found here on Commons in the category Images from Nationaal Archief and will be uploaded by the NationaalArchiefBot. You can see how many of them are used in Wikimedia projects, by using the tool Glamorous. If you find a problem that you think should be communicated back to the image donor, please add it to the Error reportspage.
Effects
