Commons:UPISU Photo Challenge
PISU 2018 Photo Challenge is a photography content and crowdsourcing event in which participants photograph and upload images of Kosovo to Wikimedia Commons. These images are then available for free use on Wikipedia and beyond. The competition takes place from 13-18 July 2018 organized under the auspice of University of Prishtina Prishtina International Summer University by Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group and FLOSSK, a free software and free knowledge NGO in Kosovo.
Rules[edit]
- Everyone is welcome to contribute. Participants upload pictures taken by themselves of eligible subjects and upload them to Wikimedia Commons during the content period under a free license.
- Uploaded photographs do not have to be taken during the period itself, but they must not have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons before.
- Participants are free to upload photographs of any eligible subject, even if Commons already has one or more photographs, but of course a new angle or a new detail is more useful to the project than simply repeating what has been done before.
- You are allowed to upload as many photos as you want. More photos, higher chance of winning.
- Best photo will be announced at the PISU conclusion ceremony.
How to[edit]
Before you can upload photographs you will need to create an account on Wikimedia Commons, unless you already have one. This is the website that acts as a repository for photographs and other images that can be freely used on Wikipedia and elsewhere. It’s very easy to do, and you do not need to give your real name unless you want to.
To enter the competition, you must enter a valid email address, even though this is stated on the page as being ‘optional’.
Wikipedia and Commons use a shared login process, so your selected username and password will allow you to login to Wikipedia as well.
- Confirm your email from your email account. Once you have logged in, look for the My preferences tab at the top right of the page. Click on that, and then on “enable email from other users.” This will allow us and other registered users on Commons to contact you in case you win, but will not make your email address publicly available.
- Take photographs of topics or sites in your surroundings or during your travels around Kosovo. You can find advice on how to take good pictures here.
- To make your image more usable for others, please type in a suitable title, overwriting the default name generated by the camera. Please add a description as well.
