Commons:WikiProject Elections and Referendums/USA election map naming conventions

USA election maps should follow enwiki's NCELECT guideline. In particular, their names should be derivable from their respective articles' names.

Colors used should be those listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Elections and Referendums/USA Legend Colors.

For nationwide maps, results map is an appropriate suffix. For maps by county/parish/municipality/precinct, that should be part of the suffix, for example results map by county or results map by municipality. The same applies to referendum results.

2018 California gubernatorial election File:2018 California gubernatorial primary election results map by county.svg (primary) and File:2018 California gubernatorial election results map by county.svg (general) Top-two primaries are named with "primary" after the election year and type if two candidates will always advance to the general election (such as in California).

If not (in cases where if a candidate breaks 50%, they win without a further election, such as in Louisiana), that primary is considered the general election and the run-off is named accordingly. This is the case regardless of the timing of the elections.
