  •  Comment in my personal photo-blog I have upload a close-up photo of prisoners from that prison in this link.. Since all these immigrations flows is a hot issue at this moment in Europe.. ie. a few weeks ago European border police "frontex" arrived in Greece [1].. this image.. is valuable image for an article about this issue. It is not an artistic b&w image as the images I like to upload in my personal blog.. and it is not a beautiful landscape or a flower or an interesting insect/animal.. it is not an image that I will print a large size and I will hang on a wall in my room. This image is quite informative.. for somebody to understand how these detention centers in greece look like.. Ggia (talk) 22:01, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I agree fully regarding the value of the photo, I just do not find it feature worthy. The b/w closeup you refer to is the kind if stuff which is much more feature-worthy IMO~and where FP needs more diversity. Really great expression on the faces on your blog. Love it. I do not want you to do animals, flowers, landscapes instead. Good peoples photography is something we have too little of on FPC. --Slaunger (talk) 22:11, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • As far you know there is the noise issue in commons.. if a photo is noisy it usually fails. This b&w photo if shot by film (Kodak Tri-X 400ASA) and it is noisy (grainy in film terminology). Look the comments of another b&w image nominated as FP Samo_man_playing_war_horn_20017864_edit.jpg - most of the people opposed because of the film-grain. This is life ;-).. even if a Magnum photographer try to nominate an image here ;-) there will be negative comments about the grain (a lot of Magnum photographers use grainy films). • Yeah, I agree that noise is sometimes taken too seriously in the FPC reviews. Concerning the film b/w nom you referred to: Yes, noise was mentioned, but I think a not so good composition also had a significant weight in the nom being declined. IMO the kind of people photography you show on your blog is a decade better concerning its ability to catch the eye, value and would have better chances here. If the Magnum photographer Steve McCurry released Afghan Girl under a suitable free license, and it was nominated here. I am confident it would be promoted despite being on film and possibly being gariny (I do not know as I have only seen it in fair use res). If it were not, it would be a prominent display of a flaw in the FPC system. --Slaunger (talk) 10:22, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
          • Image of Afghan is filmed by Kodachrome slide film that has low grain. I am talking about images from photographers like Sebastião Salgado which are grainy (usually by 400asa grainy b&w films). If there will be an nominatin as FP of a known image by an known magnum photographer... I suppose that it will be promoted as FP. if it is an image by an unknown commons photographer.. there will be opposes becase of the grain. Ggia (talk) 13:13, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
            • Ah, I realize I didn't do my homework concerning the medium for the Afghan Girl. I think you should try and nominate a recent analog photo involving people at FPC. That would be refreshing for the process. --Slaunger (talk) 22:46, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
