Title |
?Post-medieval religious figurine |
||
Description |
English: Part of a damaged lead-alloy figurine of probable post-medieval date. The artefact depicts a standing figure wearing a loose fitting robe, with several folds of cloth visible. All that remains is the upper torso and upper arms. The arms are pointed upwards and emanate from large hanging sleeves. There are traces of some sort of black paint on the lower part of the robe. A casting line can be seen, running vertically between the two halves of the figure. The inside is hollow. No parallel for this object could be found but the style of it suggests it is Christian, possibly representing Christ or a saint. A consideration of the subject matter and the technology of casting and decoration leads to the conclusion that the piece is probably post-medieval in date. The object was found in two halves and stuck together with tape by the finder. It measures 33.5mm high by 39.3mm wide and 14.2mm thick. The weight is 32.65g. |
