Description
English: The Polonnaruwa meteorite fell on December 29, 2012, at approximately 18:30. In the scientific community, you can find the phrase "supposed meteorite", because it is difficult to attribute it to any of the known classes of meteorites. However, the analyses of fragments of the meteorite (there are also eyewitnesses of the flight and the fall of the meteorite itself), including isotopic, indicate its extraterrestrial origin. Doubts about the meteoritic nature of this "stone", for the most part, are caused by the presence of microorganisms in it. The photo shows an image of a meteorite fragment taken with a Tescan VEGA 3 scanning electron microscope. Diatoms are visible. The resolution of the image allows you to see individual diatoms and even the pores on their shells.
