English: Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami is a senior Iranian cleric, as well as a senior member of the Assembly of Experts. In December 2005, Ali Khamenei appointed him as Tehran’s substitute Friday prayer leader.
Simple English: Ayatollah Sayyid Ahmad Khatami is a member of the Iranian Assembly of Experts.
Although his name resembles that of Mohammad Khatami, the reformist former president of Iran, the two men are not related. In fact, they have opposite points of view on many issues, such as democracy and velayate faqih in Iran.
