Description
English: Shows environs of Decatur, Georgia including the "line of the enemy," the position of a Union battery, and the positions of the 15th and 17th Army Corps. Relief shown by hachures. Similar map appears in the U.S. War Dept.'s Atlas to accompany the official records of the Union and Confederate armies, 1891-95, pl. 45, no. 3. A note on the printed copy states that "McPherson handed me this sketch a few moments before he was killed, July 22, 1864 (W. T. Sherman)." Title and date from Stephenson's Civil War maps, 1989. Pencil. LC Civil War maps (2nd ed.), S41, 136 Available also through the Library of Congress Web site as a raster image. In pencil in upper right margin: 47. Imperfect: Mounted on paper.
