Notes | This is a ledger binding with flap, tackets and other characteristic attributes. H M Nixon suggested that it was prepared for royal use in England before 1547 but remained unused until 1698 when Dr Richard Bentley (Librarian to William III) used it for recording the royal library at St James's. Thanks to bindings historians Federico Macchi and to A R A Hobson who has attributed this binding to Florence, pre 1547. | |||
