Català: Un rellotge de sol és un instrument de mesura que assenyala les hores mitjançant l'ombra d'un gnòmon clavat dins d'un quadrant on hi ha marcades les línies horàries. El gnòmon sempre té la direcció paral·lela a l'eix de rotació terrestre, en canvi el quadrant pot adoptar diferents posicions, igual que les línies horàries. N'hi ha de diferents tipus, els més comuns són els verticals i els horitzontals.
És un instrument emprat des de temps molt remots per poder mesurar el pas de les hores i els minuts (temps). En català s'anomena també quadrant solar. Empra l'ombra projectada per un gnòmon sobre una superfície amb una escala per indicar la posició del Sol durant el moviment diürn. Segons la disposició del gnòmon i la forma de l'escala es poden mesurar diferents tipus de temps, sent el més habitual el temps solar aparent. La ciència encarregada d'elaborar teories i reunir coneixement sobre els rellotges de sol s'anomena gnomònica. (Viquipèdia) |
