Description
English: A large burial field from Roman times was excavated, in Spijkenisse-Hartel West, in C.E.1981. It was in use between C.E.50-200 & there were remains of about 200 dead. Cremation remains of 160 men, women & children have been found. The photo shows a cremation grave of a child from Roman times. Its a stillborn’ inhumation grave, or recently deceased child after birth. The child is buried in a squat side position. The grave has been preserved and preserved (depot archaeology Rotterdam).

Nederlands: In Spijkenisse-Hartel West is in 1981 een groot grafveld opgegraven uit de Romeinse tijd. Het was tussen 50 en 200 na Christus in gebruik en er lagen resten van zo’n 200 doden. Van 160 mannen, vrouwen en kinderen zijn de crematieresten gevonden. De foto toont een crematiegraf van een kind uit de Romeinse tijd. Het betreft een inhumatiegraf van een doodgeboren, dan wel kort na de geboorte overleden kind. Het kind is in een gehurkte zijligging begraven. Het graf is geconserveerd en behouden (depot archeologie Rotterdam).
