1289 Medieval seal matrix.JPG |
||
Description |
English: Copper-alloy seal matrix, length 24mm, width 18mm, height 26mm, weight 12.31g. Oval die, with a hexagonal-section handle protruding from the rear. The stem rapidly narrows from the back of the seal forming a narrow stem, the end of which terminates in a trefoil suspension loop. The seal is engraved with a lion rampant in the centre within a border of dots, around the outside of which is an inscription reading *SVM LEO FORTIS in Lombardic lettering. The artefact has a dark green patina and is in excellent condition, apart from slight wear around the loop. It dates to the 14th century. |
