Description
English: OKUNOSHIMA, JAPAN. CHEMICAL STORAGE AREA. THESE DRUMS CONTAIN CHEMICALS, RAW MATERIALS USED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF POISON GAS, AND WILL NOT BE DESTROYED BUT POSSIBLY DIVERTED THROUGH JAPANESE HOME MINISTRY CHANNELS FOR COMMERCIAL USE. THIS IS THE SCENE AFTER THE FINAL PHASES OF "OPERATION LEWISITE" WHICH WAS CARRIED OUT UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT, BCOF. IT INVOLVED THE DESTRUCTION OF APPROXIMATELY 22000 TONS OF POISON GAS AT THE TADANOUMI BRANCH OF THE TOKYO 2ND ARMY ARSENAL. THE GAS WAS DESTROYED BY DUMPING AT SEA, BY BURNING, AND BY BURIAL.
