1503 Iron Age Colchester brooch.JPG |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy Colchester Brooch 33mm long, 5mm thick and 9mm wide weight 2.52g. Two small rectangular wings protrude either side of the head which would have protected the integral spring and pin, which is now missing. There is forward facing hook on the head that would have secured the external chord of the spring. The bow is plain and tapers to a fine point at the foot, the catch plate on the reverse of the leg is missing. The object is in a poor condition with corrosion striping away all of the original surface leaving a pitted brown layer. This artefact dates to the end of the Iron Age and continued to be used into the mid first century AD, therefore giving a date of the dating from c.15-60AD. |
