Title
17th century spur buckle
Description
English: A cast copper alloy 17th century buckle. A spur buckle consisting of a double frame with central bar. The sides are incurved, forming three points on each frame. Either side of the central bar is a rounded knop. The pin is missing but it is otherwise complete. It is rectangular in section. The colour is dark brownish green. There is some evidence of tinning on both faces. The upper face is decorated with a continuous line of punched dots. This buckle is dated circa 1620 to 1680. A parallel can be seen in Bailey 2005, page 8, no. 44 which dates to the second half of the 17th century. Length 48mm. Width 28mm. Thickness 3mm. Weight approximately 7.5g.
