One of the earliest photographs taken in Germany: Neuhauser Str. in Munich photographed on silver chloride paper by Carl von Steinheil and Franz von Kobell in late 1838 or early 1839.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Neuhauser Straße with St. Michael's Church on the left side photographed by Carl August von Steinheil (1801 - 1870) and Franz von Kobell (1803 - 1882) in July 1839 on silver chloride paper. This photograph was made from Steinheil's first-floor study in the Old Academy. Another photograph, made from a window further to the left, was probably made around the same time, possibly the same day. Steinheil later made many daguerreotypes from this study. Steinheil and Kobell claimed that they made their first photographs before anyone had published anything on photography. Throughout April and mid-1839, Steinheil and Kobell presented their photographs on silver chloride paper of buildings in Munich.
