The Cadillac Automobile Company was founded in 1903. In 1909 Cadillac was acquired by General Motors, it was GMs premier luxury car, also specialising in commercial chassis, used for limousines, ambulances and hearses. Cadillacs V8 was first introduced in 1914 in the Type 51. The 1916 Type 53 was the first car to have the gear lever and hand brake in the middle of the front two seats, a key started ignition, and three pedals for the clutch, brake and throttle in the modern order. The car was slowly improved over the next few years with the 1917 Type 55, the 1918 Type 57 and the 1920 Type 59. The Cadillac was revised in 1922, the Type 61, the top of the radiator was less rounded and higher, headlights mounted on a single post replacing the fork, all models now got exterior door handles and the horn moved under the hood. Bodies were built by a number of different coach builders but mainly they were either Fisher or Fleetwood bodies. Available in 2 door Coupe, Victoria and Roadster, 4 door Sedan, Tourer, Phaeton, Landau Sedan, Town Brougham, Limousine and Imperial Limousine
