Description

The Austin Motor Company of England built cars from 1905 until 1952 when they merged with Morris Motors Limited to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), The Austin 7 was built in England from 1922-39, nicknamed the Baby Austin, it had the same effect on England as the Model T did in the US, one of the most popular cars ever. The first cars in 1922 were 696cc and Open Tourers, also known as the Austin Chummy. In 1923 the 747cc engine was introduced, this engine remained until 1937, Sports Roadsters were soon available as well as a Van The Box Saloon was introduced in 1929. In 1934 the look was updated with The Austin 7 'Ruby' (painted cowl radiator surround). The 1937 ‘Big Seven’ got a new chassis, larger engine and more spacious body in 4-door and then 2-door versions From 1924-34, rolling chassis were sent to Australia where Holden Motor Body Works added local custom built tourer and roadster bodies. Other Australian coachbuilders included, Flood, Lonzar and Robinson, who produced the Austin 7 'Meteor', the 'Comet' by Connelley, the 'Moth' by Sykes, the 'Wasp' by Green and the 'Standard Sports' by Flood.
