| Description |
In 1897 Ransom E. Olds founded the Olds Motor Vehicle Company, later Oldsmobile. In 1905 Olds left Oldsmobile and established a new company, REO Motor Car Company. Soon to become one of the better known manufacturers of commercial vehicles prior to World War II. After years of roughly equal car and truck emphasis, REO shifted its focus completely to trucks, ending car production in 1936. The Speed Wagon was REO's light truck and was built from 1915-53 in a variety of configurations to serve as delivery, tow, dump, and fire trucks as well as hearses and ambulances. Starting in 1915 was a one ton truck capable of speeds greater than other trucks of the time. A three ton truck introduced in 1917. The powerful and durable 'Gold Crown 6 cyl introduced in 1929. REO merged with Diamond T Trucks in 1967 to form Diamond-Reo Trucks which continued until 1975. This truck is originally from Butte, having seen most of its service years as a produce delivery van.
